Calm Collective Group Starter Kit
Everything you need to launch a peer support group at your school, step by step.
Start a Movement at Your School
Starting a Calm Collective Group means creating a safe, student-led space where teens can talk openly about anxiety, share coping strategies, and support one another. This kit gives you everything you need to get started, from getting school approval to running meaningful, structured meetings.
This is a peer support group, not a therapy group. A licensed school counselor must be involved, and an adult must be present at every meeting.
Before You Begin: Requirements
Formal School Approval
Your group must be officially approved by your school administration before holding any meetings. Submit a written proposal to your principal or student activities coordinator.
Assigned Adult Supervisor
A school staff member (teacher, counselor, or administrator) must be present at every single meeting. This adult is not a facilitator; they are a safety presence.
School Counselor Involvement
A licensed school counselor must be involved in the group's formation and available as a resource. They should review meeting topics and be reachable if a student needs additional support.
Signed Waivers Required
Every participating student must have a signed waiver on file. Students under 18 also require a parent or guardian signature. No student may attend without a completed waiver.
How to Get School Approval
Write a Proposal
Draft a one-page proposal explaining the purpose of the group, meeting frequency, and how it aligns with your school's wellness goals. Include this kit as supporting material.
Meet with Your Counselor
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor first. Their support will strengthen your proposal and they can help you navigate the approval process.
Submit to Administration
Present your proposal to your principal or student activities coordinator. Be prepared to answer questions about group structure, safety protocols, and parental consent.
Collect Waivers
Once approved, distribute waivers to all interested students. Collect signed copies from students and parents before the first meeting. Keep all waivers on file.
Waiver Information
All participants must have a completed waiver on file before attending any Calm Collective group meeting. Waivers are included in the downloadable kit below.
Student Waiver
Signed by the participating student acknowledging the peer support (not therapy) nature of the group, confidentiality guidelines, and community agreements.
Parent / Guardian Waiver
Required for all students under 18. Parents acknowledge the group's peer support nature, consent to their child's participation, and provide emergency contact information.
Waivers are included in the downloadable PDF kit. Your school may also require its own additional consent forms. Check with your administration.
Meeting Topic Guides
Each meeting is designed for 45 minutes and includes a warm-up, discussion, activity, and closing check-in.
